What is Leadership 20/20?

Leadership 20/20 is a year long program designed to identify potential leaders and develop within these individuals the knowledge, skills, and vision necessary to enable them to actively participate in the enhancement of the quality of life in their communities.

The program is a 501 (c) (3) that is administered by the Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce.

Who can participate in Leadership 20/20?

All persons from throughout the Houston area who are interested in community stewardship are encouraged to apply.  Each year the program brings together a diverse group of about 20 men and women, selected from  applicants who have been carefully chosen for their degree of involvement in the community and level of commitment to the goals of Leadership 20/20.

What are the goals for the participants of Leadership 20/20?

Leadership 20/20 encourages class members to become motivated and committed community leaders.  It helps them explore and develop action plans for addressing local needs and issues.  It provides a forum for persons to meet and exchange thoughts and ideas with current and prospective leaders of the community, and it develops and nurtures a special bond among class members which aids them in effectively promoting work on community projects.

What is the format of the program?

Each month, with a "hands on" approach, the class studies specific topics including: education, criminal justice, local and state government, health and human services, economic development, quality of life/arts/culture, and media/communications.  The class year begins and ends with sessions in a retreat setting.  By exposing the Leadership Class to timely issues, and by meeting with speakers who are experts in their fields, a well-rounded growth experience occurs.

What happens after graduation?

Upon graduation, class members are expected to continue their Leadership experience by planning the curriculum for the next class.  They can also take their skills into the community where they will use them in both their professional and personal lives.   Leadership grads may wish to take part in various Alumni Committee activities such as recruiting or serving as resources for speakers or sponsorships.

How do I apply?

Applications for Class XVII, which will begin in September 2008, are now available. There is a $35 non-refundable application fee. Tuition for the year-long program is $995. Click here to download an application online.
