Greenway Plaza

Greenway Plaza, a small sliver of Houston on the Southwest Freeway between the Loop and Kirby, is well known in Houston for its concentration of gleaming office towers that are experiencing high occupancy. Within the boundaries of Greenway Plaza, 755 businesses employ over 25,000 people. These businesses include financial institutions, law firms, accounting firms, real estate development companies, and many more. The area also boasts exclusive apartment complexes, hotel properties, a 24-screen movie theater, a senior assisted living center, and several major retail shopping centers have opened in the past few years.

Two major transformations are taking place in the area. The former Compaq Center, a Greenway Plaza landmark, has recently undergone a massive and unique renovation from a sports arena to a church. Lakewood Church, the largest non-denominational church in the country, has signed a long-term lease of the facility from the City of Houston. The Lakewood International Center hosts concerts, sporting events, family conferences, conventions, business workshops, receptions, and personal growth seminars that are open to the public.

Another change in Greenway Plaza is the sale of the 24-acre site of the former Houston Independent School District headquarters complex. A mixed-used development is planned for the site, including upscale retail and residential buildings.
